"Enquiry, or investigeation, forms a central feature of the revised subject orders and as such, needs to be part of continued professional development for all teachers."

The aim of this course is to provide guidance for Supply Teachers on the five stage generic enquiry process. By the end of the course you will:

  • Understand the five stages including; planning, conducting, processing, evaluating and communicating
  • Be able to plan and deliver enquiry based activities, which can be applied to existing planning in any subject
  • Be able to improve your questioning techniques as part of the enquiry process
  • Have looked into the revisions to the National Curriculum, which will make it easier to define a general enquiry approach
  • Match this process to an overview of the Skills Framework – Plan, Develop, Reflect

Course Leader – Sian Fielding

As an experienced Primary Head Teacher with 24 years worth of experience, Sian has gained a wide scope of knowledge and experience of working with children between 3-16 years. Having worked for a number of different schools across a variety of authorities, she joined Powys as a Head in 1999 – the authority she still works for to this day. During her time as Head, she became a Performance Management Advisor and Threshold Assessor, working within Mid and West Wales.

In 2005, Sian became the Primary Behaviour Support Advisor and Social Inclusion Manager for Powys, working in both Primary and Secondary phases. As of April 2008, Sian has undertaken a new role within Schools and Inclusion as a School Improvement Officer, with a lead for more able and talented and creative arts across the authority. She monitors, supports and challenges a number of schools, which include Primary and Secondary settings.

A registered ESTYN Inspector for Primary Schools, Sian is currently working within the South West and Mid Wales consortium as a moderator and assessor for the new Inclusive School Award for Wales pilot scheme.
