Throughout the 2009/10 school year, New Directions will be hosting a series of seminars facilitated by David Egan.   Improving the Quality of Teaching is the third seminar of the series.    

Overview

The objectives of the day are:

  • Why teaching is the key to successful and effective education in schools
  • How schools can ensure that teaching is of the highest quality 
  • What schools must do to ensure that they develop teaching to meet the needs of the School Effectiveness Framework and the new Estyn Inspection system 

Course led by – Professor David Egan

David Egan is Professor of Education at UWIC, where he is Director of the Centre for Applied Education Research.  He has been involved in education in Wales for over 30 years, including thirteen years spent as a classroom teacher.  From 2005 until 2007 he was Special Adviser for Education to the Welsh Assembly Government, where he served the First Minister, the Education Minister and the Cabinet.  He has been one of the main thinkers behind the School Effectiveness Framework in Wales and works regularly with schools, Local Authorities and policymakers in developing and evaluating education policy
